Please stay safe,
Roland was a dear friend of ours. He grew up in DC, but moved to NYC in the late 50’s and eventually settled in Harlem. He taught special needs children in NYC for many years, was Parish Administrator for his beloved church, St Edward the Martyr in East Harlem, and was the community board member on the board of the New York Common Pantry (East Harlem) for many years.
He sadly passed away in 2012 but will always be remembered by his many friends as a wry wit, lover of great food, smoker of unfiltered cigarettes, drinker of gin martinis (amongst other things), theater aficionado, world traveler, supporter of gay rights, master of the double entendre, helper of those in need and most of all a loving and loyal friend.
The Reverend Canon William Derby of St Edward the Martyr described Roland recently as a man who lived out his values. Roland had amazing values. We hope a little bit of his spirit and beauty is reflected in our restaurant….as it is forever in our hearts.
Roland Woodland 1942-2012
